The ISO 14001:2015 forms part of the ISO 14000 series of international standards and sets out the requirements which an organisation’s Environmental Management System (EMS) should meet. Although the standard does not outline the requirements for environmental performance, it does offer a framework for the development of such a system and highlights what needs to be done to meet the organisation’s environmental performance goals.
The Standard is generic and thus applicable to any sized organisation, irrespective of the industry in which it operates or the products and services it delivers. The organisation sets their own target and the relevant measures for performance based on the criteria set out in the Standard.
Compliance provides customers, suppliers, shareholders and business partners with the assurance that the organisation has taken the necessary steps to reduce their environmental impact. Certification also validates the organisation’s compliance with relevant environmental statutory regulations. Even though certification is not compulsory, it lends credibility to the organisation’s EMS.
Through the effective implementation and management of an EMS that meets the criteria of ISO 14001:2015, the organisation improves on cost management and operation efficiency.
The standard can be integrated with existing management functions for the purpose of achieving the organisation’s economic and environmental objectives and performance.
The WWISE consultants assist your organisation in implementing an EMS that complies with the requirements of ISO 14001:2015 and relevant statutory regulations.
We do an initial assessment of your existing environmental and quality management systems and compare them with the requirements set out in the Standard.
Specific aspects are addressed during development and implementation of the EMS, including the involvement of key players, ongoing communication regarding the processes for compliance, and establishing roles and responsibilities within your organisation. As part of this process, we provide training in the relevant aspects of the Standard, as well as internal auditing processes. We thus ensure that your organisation can maintain, internally audit and improve on your EMS in compliance with statutory and ISO 14001:2015 requirements independently of WWISE.
