ISO 9001:2015 is one of the most important Standards in the ISO 9000 series of international standards. It is available from the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) and provides the framework for the assessment of a Quality Management System (QMS). The Standard is relevant to any sized organisation, irrespective of the industry in which it operates. It does not cover specific products or services and can thus be considered relatively generic and, consequently, applicable to any type of product or service.
Two standards supplement and support ISO 9001:2015. The first, ISO 9000:2005, focuses on the fundamentals and vocabulary of QMS. While the second, ISO 9004:2009, is focused on management for sustained success following the quality management approach.
For the purpose of third party assessment or auditing, ISO 9001:2015 is used, while the two supplementing standards are guidelines regarding the improvement and maintenance of QMS.
The above are used to validate the management of the various organisational processes to which end the level of customer satisfaction can be measured in terms of the products and services delivered. Although the Standard is used in the assessment of the QMS, it also contains the necessary guidelines according to which the organisation should develop, maintain and improve the QMS.
