How ISO 9001: 2015 can benefit an organisation

ISO 9001: 2015 is internationally recognised as the world’s leading quality management standard and has been implemented by over one million organisations in over 170 countries globally.

This standard outlines the quality management system (QMS) necessary for the successful administration of an organisation, regardless of its size.

It is a collective of policies, processes and procedures required for the production, product development and services necessary for any business. “ISO 9001 implemented correctly, can become an invaluable asset to your organisation”, says Muhammad Ali, Managing Director of WWISE.

Why a business would want a quality management system (QMS).

“Because consistency is key! By implementing a quality management system, the overall administration of a businesses internal processes is optimised and statutory and regulatory requirements relating to their product are met. Implementing the right QMS allows a businesses to streamline internal processes which reflect externally yielding great benefits to the business by achieving excellence in their customer service and delivery and therefore profit”, adds Ali.

There are eight Principles of Quality Management that form the foundations that the ISO 9001 certification is built on:

ISO 9001: 2015 meets these principles and facilitate businesses to run smoothly by enabling them to

simplify processes and allows for complete transparency throughout the business operation. From suppliers to customers, with fewer barriers between various internal operations, the ISO 9001: 2015 provides the benefits such as:

  • Customers: with user friendly processes, customers are encouraged firstly, to interact with the business and, secondly to purchase products and service without any restrictions or barriers. Customers also enjoy better quality products and a clear channel for complaints and communication.

  • Suppliers that benefit from improved relationships as a result of more reliable production and scheduling as well as decreased costs, increased compliance, better quality and shorter delivery times.

  • Employees that are involved in the improvements of the processes they are happier and more engaged. Through more efficient processes they can minimise mistakes and improve reporting and communications within the organisation. Communication becomes cross-functional, cross-departmental and cross-locational. Mostly, a QMS helps to demystify the roles and responsibilities of everyone in the organisation and allows for staff training to be consistent and constantly improved.

  • The organisation that can maintain standards through structured annual assessments, enables the business to more easily find improvements in efficiency and cost savings and offers a clear approach to corrective action which reduces risk in a business. Having an ISO 9001 quality management system in place also improves the credibility and image of the organisation when competing in the public sector and when clients are looking for suppliers.

Overall a QMS facilitates the business’ commitment to its vision and mission. It is the groundwork for effective, consistent output as well as the identification of potential improvements. It facilitates analytics and allows for the measurement of progress through data that allows trend identification and progress reports so KPIs can be properly reported.

“Waste less time and resources and invest in ISO 9001: 2015 so you can focus on what really matters – YOUR CUSTOMERS, because happy and satisfied customers are the key to building customer loyalty, a sustainable business and profit”, ends Ali.
